Crafts to see, smell and taste!

Pirker Biene gelb

Lebzelten, wax pulling, and mead brewing are among the oldest crafts in existence and have a long tradition in our family. Both the techniques and the basic recipes and ingredients for our specialties have been tried and tested over many decades and have never been changed.

The high art of Lebzelten

Lebkuchen bakers are true artists who delight in creating something incomparably delicious and unique from the wonderful natural product of honey. Each gingerbread is individually topped, filled, spread, decorated, and labeled by hand, making it a truly unique piece.

For hungry believers

Pirker Biene gelb

Why the professions of gingerbread maker, mead brewer, and wax extractor are primarily practiced at pilgrimage sites is easy to explain: Pilgrims, who often spent days walking, not only wanted to be fed locally but also needed provisions for the arduous journey home. Gingerbread was ideal for this purpose, as its high honey content makes it an excellent energy booster and, moreover, particularly long-lasting. And while some of the honey was used for these pastries, the other part was used to make mead. Honeycombs also had a use: They were made into beeswax candles and still adorn altars today.

Unique in Europe

Our family business is unique. It's the only one where the aforementioned activities of gingerbread making, mead brewing, and wax pulling are still practiced and taught today. We're very proud of this!
